Gaining focus – our tips for setting objectives

We all have aims and goals we want to achieve in life.

They can be anything; from finding a new job, getting over a tough time, to simply aspiring to be more resilient.

However, if there is no set plan in place for reaching these goals, they’ll only remain a wish, or a dream.

To make them a reality, we need to create objectives.

First, think of something you want to achieve. Then consider:

– What skills and knowledge do I need to achieve this?

– Who do I need to ask for help?

– What will count as ‘success’?

– When should I achieve the goal?

– How could I do things better?

– What will prevent me succeeding?

If it helps, try writing down the answers to these questions.

This should help you make your objectives SMART – specific, measurable, agreed, realistic and time-bound.

This way, you’ll know when you’ve achieved them, or what you need to do to achieve them.

Once complete, that feeling of accomplishment will contribute towards your positive mindset.

You can then set new objectives, achieve more, and work towards continual improvement.
